The Production Website

A framework-neutral fieldbook for designing, building, reviewing, launching and maintaining production websites with explicit engineering, security, privacy, accessibility and operational controls.

The Production Website fieldbook with production engineering reference artifacts
Edition 1.0 and its framework-neutral implementation companion.

A working reference for production websites

The Production Website is a framework-neutral fieldbook for people who need to design, build, review, launch and maintain real websites.

I wrote it to connect visual decisions with engineering implementation, security, privacy, accessibility, testing, release evidence and production operations.

What the fieldbook covers

  • Product and page architecture
  • Design systems and responsive behaviour
  • Server and client boundaries
  • Data modelling and API contracts
  • Authentication and authorization
  • Security and abuse protection
  • Privacy and data lifecycle
  • Accessibility and inclusive interaction
  • AI-assisted development boundaries
  • Testing and release verification
  • Monitoring, incidents, backup and rollback
  • Production maintenance

How to use it

This is not a collection of fashionable interface patterns. Each applicable rule should lead to an artifact, an owner, a test, evidence or an observable production signal.

Use only the sections relevant to the product being built. The companion repository provides reusable templates, machine-readable controls, JSON schemas, validation scripts and a fictional reference implementation.

Important boundary

This fieldbook is an engineering reference. It does not certify legal, regulatory, security, privacy, payment or accessibility compliance. Product-specific requirements must still be reviewed for the relevant entity, users, technology and markets.
